The Upshur County OEM is currently seeking partners in the county to enter into an agreement to be a shelter in case of an emergency. We are looking for locations, and also organized groups interested in doing more when trouble strikes.
We need shelters of sturdy construction that are ADA accessible with adequate sanitary facilities that are not located in flood areas. Food preparation, recreation areas, parking and a backup generator are a big plus if available.
We also need volunteers to staff and maintain these shelters; we will train you or your group and show you how to receive credentialing to work in Upshur and other areas during a disaster.
The OEM is also looking for volunteers to work in our Emergency Operations Center during an emergency. We will supply the training. Computer and interpersonal skills are helpful.
Do you have a special skill already? Such as search and rescue, canine, communications, damage assessment, grief counseling, or multilingual skills, that you want to offer in times of need. Contact us to get on our resource list.
Interested in working in the field during a disaster? Inquire about joining our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). We will train and equip you.
